Message from the Superintendent

Rangely is a great place to live and learn:  Rangely School District, RE-4, strives to be a place where every student reaches their full academic potential, graduates, and is delivered to their next station in life.  This will be achieved through strategies that focus on student achievement directed by high level curriculum, instruction and assessment; in an exemplary learning environment with the support of parents and the community, in order to attain excellence and equity for each student.

Academic Achievement Strategies:  The school district will focus on the academic success of each student as they plan and take their next steps in life with the support of the school district, family and the community.  The school district’s superintendent, teachers and staff will know the aspirations of each student, and will work to provide individual opportunities for each student.  Every student is unique and has unique dreams, desires, skills, needs, family support and talents.  The school district will know each student for whom they are and for whom they wish to become.  The district will have an affirmative responsibility to ensure that each student graduates and has the opportunity to move to their next station in life.

Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Strategies:  The educational program places an emphasis on the basics of writing, reading, math, and science as a foundation for more creative and challenging courses.  Each student is provided with the curriculum and instruction necessary for proficiency with built-in structural interventions (RTI) designed to support various levels of learning; which recognize the individual differences, abilities and interest of each student.  Faculty works as a professional learning community. PLC are internal, pedagogical strategies whereby teachers work as a team to; assess students, allow for structural intervention, develop formative assessments, provide collegial support through job imbedded professional development, and evaluate curricular content thereby delivering a guaranteed and viable curriculum.  A PLC provides teachers with the emotional support of a collaborative environment while allowing the autonomy of personal style within the classroom.

Exemplary Learning Environment Strategies:  The environment is safe, comfortable, assuring, familiar, disciplined, and challenging which fosters a culture of collaboration among student and stewardship from all adults.  There is a palatable sense of pride emanating from the students about their academic achievement.  The adults demonstrate leadership, pride, and respect for students, staff, parents and community.  The faculty and staff are frequently recognized for their personal commitments and contributions to the academic success of the students.  The culture places continuous learning as the top priority.  In this environment students have the confidence to meet high expectations and be creative and free thinkers.  The adults in the district including the superintendent, staff and faculty will support the creative and linear cognitive development of each student.

Community and Parent Support Strategies:  Parents will be encouraged through regular and frequent communication to provide an environment at home which supports the value of education and provides the emotional support necessary for significant educational growth.  Parents recognize that their role of caregiver requires them to lead the educational development process for their children.  They join educators in a mutual partnership to educate and develop their children into responsible and productive adults.  They provide constructive feedback to educators, and lead the community with financial and social support of the educational system.  They promote the development of their children’s social, civic, spiritual, emotional, physical and familial responsibilities and attributes.

Equity for Each Student:  We believe that equity of opportunity is a foundational and mandatory expectation within each school district.  However, it is not enough to just provide the same opportunity for each student, which may be established at the lowest educational common denominator.  Students are inherently different therefore a commitment to exceptional outcome, as defined as the best possible educational outcome for each child, is the appropriate standard.  Each student deserves to be treated as an individual and have their individual needs and potentials met.  Rangely school district has an affirmative responsibility to make sure that each student reaches their academic potential, graduates, and is delivered to their next station in life.
